CHINA is committed to turning the vision of an Asia-Pacific community into concrete actions and transforming the blueprint into reality as it prepares to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen this November, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference yesterday on the sidelines of the annual session of China’s top legislature in Beijing. Noting that decades have passed since the concept of the Asia-Pacific community was first put forward, Wang said the idea must not stay on paper or remain just a vision. He called for finding broad consensus, clear priorities, and workable steps in APEC Shenzhen. “We hope to find the answers in Shenzhen,” he said. The Shenzhen APEC will focus on three priorities — openness, innovation, and cooperation — and aims to once again chart the course and rally strength for Asia-Pacific cooperation at a critical crossroads. China will align different pathways toward the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific, make appropriate arrangements for regional connectivity, and vigorously promote the transformation toward the digital, smart and green development, according to Wang. He added that over 300 events will be held throughout the year across multiple cities, providing opportunities for all APEC member economies to contribute. Describing Shenzhen as a key window of China’s reform and opening up, a shining calling card of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the innovation frontier of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Wang expressed confidence in the city’s role. China is ready to promote a restart from APEC Shenzhen toward the goal of the Asia-Pacific community, said Wang. (SD-Xinhua) |
