GET ready for a sea of pink and red! The highly anticipated 2026 Wutong Mountain Rhododendron Festival kicks off Friday and runs through March 31, offering visitors a spectacular natural display as the mountain bursts into bloom. Rhododendron moulmainense is a flowering evergreen shrub native to South China and Southeast Asia. The blossoms on Wutong Mountain represent the world’s only alpine rhododendron flowers found within a major metropolis. The blooming period in Shenzhen typically lasts until early April. Best viewing spots Rhododendron Valley 杜鹃谷 Located near Little Wutong Square (小梧桐广场), Rhododendron Valley spans 20 hectares and offers multiple vantage points for viewing the blossoms. Immerse yourself in the lush forest and wander through a sea of flowers. Wanhuaping 万花屏 Home to over 1,000 rhododendron moulmainense trees, Wanhuaping presents a spectacular sight. It also features an ancient rhododendron tree over 10 meters tall, estimated to be more than 100 years old. Tofu Hilltop 豆腐头 As the second-highest peak of Wutong Mountain, Tofu Hilltop is renowned for its flamboyant red rhododendron simsii. The flower’s Chinese name “映山红,” meaning “mountains tinged with red,” vividly captures the bright red blossoms when they are in full bloom. Rhododendron Corridor 十里杜鹃长廊 Stretching 2 kilometers between the TV tower on Little Wutong and Good Man Slope (好汉坡), this corridor allows hikers to appreciate camellia, enkianthus quinqueflorus, rhododendron farrerae, rhodoleia championii, and more than 10 species of rhododendron. The corridor also provides quick access to Rhododendron Valley, Wanhuaping, and Tofu Hilltop. In addition to the splendid floral scenery, visitors can enjoy stunning views of both the sea and the mountain.
