IN recent years, the “pet-friendly” concept has quietly reshaped everyday life in Shenzhen. Beyond well-equipped parks and shopping malls that welcome pets, a growing number of dog owners are now seeking nature-filled adventures with their furry companions on nearby trails. The newly upgraded Luofang Park wild trail — Shenzhen’s first systematically designed pet-friendly hiking route — answers that call, extending the city’s pet-friendly ethos from urban spaces into the serene, leafy hills. This thoughtfully designed trail preserves much of the area’s natural character, offering an authentic escape into nature for both two-legged and four-legged visitors. Trail at a glance Length: About 2 km Highest elevation: 85 meters Typical time: 1–1.5 hours Surface: Mainly soft, natural dirt paths with gentle undulations Starting your journey The recommended route begins at the Luosha Road entrance of the Luofang country trail. From Liantang Checkpoint Station (Exit D, Metro Line 2/8), walk west about 400 meters to the clearly marked trailhead. Informational boards at the entrance explain the route; from there, climb a short green ladder-style stairway and start your adventure. ‘Dog Library’: A sniffing paradise Tucked along the trail are several “pet enrichment branch-sharing stations,” affectionately nicknamed the “Dog Library.” These unexpected features are stocked with non-toxic local branches — for example, prickly ash, thorny lime, and thin evodia — so dogs can sniff and nudge to explore the environment through their strongest sense. Thoughtful design The trail’s design shows care for both humans and pets. A comprehensive information board at the trailhead includes a dedicated pet-friendly section outlining etiquette and safety. Hand-drawn, carved-line style graphics reinforce a natural, rustic aesthetic. The “PawTrail” logo cleverly places two “feet” under the wordmark to symbolize the meeting of human biped and pet quadruped — a gentle metaphor for shared urban–nature coexistence. Along the route, interpretive signs distinguish pet-friendly plants from harmful species and explain key precautions. Multiple wooden-stump seating areas provide convenient spots to pause, give your dog water, and enjoy the breeze. Interactive photo checkpoints encourage you to stop and capture moments with your pet, turning the walk into a small ritual. Reminder for a happy adventure As you set off with your canine companion, please remember these essential tips for a safe, enjoyable visit: ● Bring water, a bowl, waste bags and a towel. ● Wear comfortable, dirt-resistant shoes — pants and shoes may pick up yellow earth. ● Keep your dog on leash, clean up after them, and avoid letting them eat plants even if labeled safe. ● Be mindful in tall grass and supervise interactions with wildlife.(Tang Li) |
