China announced yesterday the upgrade and expansion of its pet transport services, now covering 121 high-speed railway stations and 228 trains, Xinhua reported. The service offers two options: accompanied travel, which allows pets to ride on the same train as their owners, and a standalone service for pets traveling independently. Eligibility is currently restricted to healthy, domestically raised cats and dogs. Pets must weigh no more than 15 kg, with a maximum shoulder height of 40 cm and a body length not exceeding 52 cm. For accompanied travel, passengers can make reservations via the 12306 app or website by selecting trains marked with a pet icon. For the unaccompanied option, owners must book through the “China Railway Express” WeChat mini-program two to five days before departure |
