Vienna Girls Choir to make historic debut in SZ
    2026-04-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FOR the first time, the Vienna Girls Choir will perform in China. On April 27, the ensemble will make its highly anticipated debut at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen, bringing a slice of the “City of Music” to local audiences.

Titled “Hello,” the tour is designed as a warm musical greeting. The purity of the girls’ voices transcends cultural barriers, leaving music as the universal language of the evening.

Established in 2004 as the sister ensemble to the legendary Vienna Boys Choir, the group has grown into a professional chamber choir of 26 young women, aged 10 to 14. Trained at the Vienna Boys Choir school using the same methods, these choristers balance academic studies with rigorous vocal practice and international tours. Since embarking on their first major global tour in 2025, the choir has captivated audiences across Europe.

Under the baton of Stefan Foidl, the choir is known for its natural, effortless sound. The Shenzhen program is a rich tapestry of styles, spanning centuries and genres. It features works by female composers Fanny Mendelssohn and Alma Mahler, alongside the sacred music of Bach and romantic melodies of Brahms.

The evening will sparkle with Strauss dynasty favorites, including “The Blue Danube.” The second half traverses the globe, featuring jazz standards like “Fly Me to the Moon,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and the most anticipated piece of the night: a special arrangement of the cherished Chinese folk song, “Jasmine Flower.”

Time: 8 p.m., April 27

Venue: Opera Hall, Bay Opera of Shenzhen, Bao’an District (深圳滨海艺术中心歌剧厅)

Metro: Line 5 to Baohua Station (宝华站), Exit D(Tang Li)
