The Sanyuesan Temple Fair of Beidi (the North Deity), kicked off yesterday in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District. As Shenzhen’s largest traditional temple fair, the event will run through April 22. The 500-year-old fair celebrates the birthday of Beidi, a deity traditionally worshiped in southern and eastern China for his connection to water — a natural resource essential to farming and fishing. The birthday falls on Sanyuesan, the third day of the third month in the Chinese lunar calendar, which this year lands on April 19 |
