‘Microscope’ in the sea
    2026-04-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A subsurface imaging plankton probe‌ (IPP) mounted on an underwater instrument rack aboard a floating platform at the ocean comprehensive test site in Dapeng Bay, Dapeng New Area. Developed by a research team from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT), the setup automatically “presses the shutter” every three seconds to capture the fleeting postures of hundred-micrometer-scale plankton. The images are transmitted wirelessly back to shore, revealing an underwater micro-world otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
