First National Reading Week begins as China builds book-loving society
    2026-04-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Hundreds of students dressed in traditional Chinese attire recite the classic ancient Chinese literary piece “Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng” in front of the Pavilion of Prince Teng in Nanchang, the capital of east China’s Jiangxi Province, yesterday, marking the launch of the first National Reading Week. Throughout the week, a variety of reading events will be held across the country, including lectures, book fairs, salons, and book donations — all aimed at promoting reading among the public. According to Xinhua News Agency, amid the growing trend of digital reading, the comprehensive reading rate among Chinese adults reached 82.3% in 2025.
