
Tenth Stop: Los Cabos, Mexico The Tenth APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting took place in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Oct. 26-27, 2002. Guided by the theme “Expanding the Benefits of Economic Growth and Development – Implementing the Vision,” the summit prioritized counter-terrorism cooperation, support for the multilateral trading system, and regional economic expansion. Leaders adopted a formal declaration and a counter-terrorism statement, urging member economies to conclude a new round of WTO negotiations by 2005. Furthermore, the meeting underscored the importance of energy market reform and the launch of the Secure Trade in the APEC Region (STAR) Initiative. Situated at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos is uniquely framed by the Gulf of California to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south.
