Shenzhen enters peak period of ‘dragon boat rain’

Shenzhen has entered the peak of this year’s “dragon boat rain” season — a period of heavy precipitation occurring around the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 19 this year — local meteorological authorities said. The city expects heavy to extreme rain today, with maximum hourly intensity potentially reaching 100 mm.Thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gales. Forecasters expect showers and intermittent heavy rain to continue from June 16 to 19. Residents are advised to avoid underpasses and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Authorities also warn of potential geological hazards, including landslides and ground collapses
