China’s oldest dragon boat ‘awakens’ for festival
    2026-06-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The historic Yanbu Old Dragon Boat undergoes its annual caiqing ritual yesterday in Foshan, Guangdong Province. Translated as “picking the green,” caiqing is a traditional ceremony held to “awaken” the vessel in preparation for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on Friday this year. Dating back to 1432 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), this 594-year-old vessel is the oldest surviving dragon boat in China. Measuring 36.8 meters and weighing approximately 4 tons, the boat and its accompanying folk customs are recognized as a provincial intangible cultural heritage. China News Service
