Onlookers gaze at the debris of a destroyed building in Caracas, Venezuela, on Wednesday evening after two devastating earthquakes struck the capital. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has confirmed at least 32 deaths and over 700 injuries, while the U.S. Geological Survey estimates the final death toll could range between 10,000 and 100,000. The Venezuelan Government has declared a state of emergency. Tremors were also reported in neighboring Colombia and as far away as Brazil’s Amazon region, more than 1,700 km from Caracas.Xinhua |
