FROM Aug. 5 to 9, the world’s only true ice ballet company arrives at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen, directly from St. Petersburg, Russia. For five days, the Opera Hall’s stage will be transformed into a massive real-ice rink spanning more than 100 square meters. During performances, the entire Opera Hall will switch to cooling mode. Outside, summer heat may rage, but inside the theater, the stage becomes a -8°C frozen world. It is, without doubt, the most artistic and refreshing escape from the heat this summer. Presenting two of Tchaikovsky’s timeless masterpieces — “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker” — the St. Petersburg State Ballet on Ice is the only company on earth capable of performing full-length classical ballets entirely on real ice. Built on a century-old legacy of Russian ballet, the company seamlessly blends the delicate grace of classical dance with the dynamic energy of figure skating. Pointe shoes are replaced by ice blades, and dainty steps are transformed into powerful glides. The performance preserves ballet’s noble lightness while showcasing the athletic intensity of elite skating. The result is the ultimate fusion of strength and beauty. Founded in 1967, the company features more than 40 performers — many of whom are prize winners of Russian and international figure skating competitions, as well as certified sports masters. Every spin, lift, and throw jump delivers the speed and power of elite ice sports without sacrificing the grace and emotional depth of classical ballet. To recreate the purest aesthetic of minus-zero-degree artistry, the St. Petersburg State Ballet on Ice spares no effort in bringing a real-ice rink of Winter Olympics quality into the theater. From equipment transport to on-site construction, every step is carried out with the utmost precision and care.
