21st Stop:

Bali, Indonesia

The 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting convened in Bali, Indonesia, on Oct. 7, 2013, focusing on the Bogor Goals, regional connectivity, and sustainable growth with equity. Under the theme “Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth,” leaders issued a joint declaration and a statement supporting the multilateral trading system and the 9th WTO Ministerial Conference.

Bali is located in the Indian Ocean, 8 degrees south of the equator and just east of Java. It is bordered by the Bali Strait to the west, the Lombok Strait to the east, the Java Sea to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the south. While the local economy is rooted in the production of rice, corn, and coffee, the island is internationally renowned for its tourism. Known as the “Island of the Gods” and “Paradise Island,” its famous landmarks include Tanah Lot Temple, Kuta Beach, Uluwatu Cliff, and Tirta Empul Temple.
