Immersive exhibition brings Qianlong Garden to life
    2026-07-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Qianlong Garden of the Palace Museum becomes the unlikely centerpiece of “A Garden Within: An Immersive Light and Shadow Exhibition,” which opened July 9 at the National Library of China in Beijing. Featuring 15 immersive scenes and 17 interactive installations, the exhibition employs cutting-edge digital technology to translate the architectural beauty and cultural stories of the classical garden into an interactive, sensory environment.

Built between 1771 and 1776, the Qianlong Garden — officially the Garden in the Palace of Tranquil Longevity — showcases a rich synthesis of garden design, architecture, painting, carving, and interior decoration. Currently closed to in-person visits, the garden is brought to life digitally, allowing audiences to explore its hidden wonders without stepping foot inside.

The exhibition is ticketed and runs through Dec. 6.
