STUDENTS from Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) have achieved historic results in the recently concluded 2026 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM), securing multiple prestigious awards.

Notably, Dong Jie and Huang Ziqi, majoring in Electronic and Computer Engineering, were awarded the Finalist (F Award). In addition, SMBU teams took home three Meritorious Winner (M Award) prizes and 11 Honorable Mention (H Award) prizes.

Their honors marked a new milestone for the Longgang-based university, setting a record for both the quantity and quality of awards won. It also represented the third time SMBU students have clinched the Finalist designation, following their success in 2021 and 2024.

Hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP), the contest is recognized as one of the most influential mathematical modeling competitions in the world. The contest problems are highly multidisciplinary, requiring participants to apply mathematical modeling to resolve real-world challenges in areas such as economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and safety.

This year’s competition attracted over 32,000 teams from 28 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, showcasing the global competitiveness and high academic standard of the event.
