24th Stop:

Lima, Peru

On Nov. 20, 2016, the 24th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting was held in Lima, Peru, under the theme “Quality Growth and Human Development.” The meeting focused on regional economic integration and quality growth, food security, small and medium-sized enterprises, and human capital development. It issued the 2016 Leaders’ Declaration and the Lima Declaration on APEC’s Contribution to the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, and adopted the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap.

Lima, Peru’s capital, lies along the Rímac River, with the Andes foothills to the east and the Pacific port of Callao to the west. Founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, the city was named the “City of Kings.” Lima has a tropical desert climate, with mild temperatures and little rain year-round, earning it the nickname “The City of No Rain.”
