Five young scientists from Shenzhen were awarded this year’s Xplorer Prize yesterday, a science award established in 2019 by the Tencent Foundation and a group of renowned scientists to encourage young talents to focus on fundamental research and disruptive technologies. They were among 48 young scientists nationwide who received the award. Each winner will receive 3 million yuan (US$446,000) over five years. The Shenzhen recipients consist of three from the Southern University of Science and Technology, one from Harbin Institute of Technology’s Shenzhen campus, and one from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences
