At the bottom of Yunnan’s Nizhu River Grand Canyon lies Nizhuhe Village. Above it, perched on the mountaintop, is Guanzhai Primary School — separated by a sheer vertical drop of over 500 meters. For students living in the canyon, the trek to class used to take nearly half a day. That changed in 2022, when the Nizhu River Grand Canyon scenic area opened, bringing with it a 268-meter-high cliff elevator and a cable car system — both offered to local villagers and students free of charge. Today, the seamless combination of shuttle buses, elevators, and cable cars has cut the journey to roughly 30 minutes. A dedicated safe passage has been set up, with police officers and staff escorting the students along the route.(SD News)
