THE highly anticipated annual Macao International Fireworks Display Contest is set to illuminate the city’s skyline from September through early October, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. The 34th edition of this prestigious event is tentatively scheduled for five nights — Sept. 12, 19, 25, and Oct. 1 and 4 — according to the Macao Government Tourism Office. As in previous years, the pyrotechnic displays will take place over the waters near Macao Tower. Each performance night features two 18-minute shows, commencing at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m., respectively. Ten fireworks companies from China, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Portugal, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom will compete across the five evening events. Since its launch in 1989, the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has grown into one of the world’s leading competitions of its kind, with over 100 high-level fireworks companies from around the globe having participated in past editions. Spectators can enjoy the shows free of charge from multiple vantage points.
