Global arrivals surge as Shenzhen records 200M border crossings
    2026-09-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A surge in visitors from foreign countries and China’s Macao and Taiwan has helped drive Shenzhen’s cross-border passenger traffic, which has surpassed 200 million trips so far in 2026, according to the city’s immigration authorities. The milestone was reached 28 days earlier than last year. In the first eight months of the year, Shenzhen recorded 3.05 million trips by visitors from foreign countries and China’s Macao and Taiwan, up 23.97% from a year earlier — 2.5 times the growth rate of Hong Kong travelers. Their share of total border traffic rose from 1.5% to 1.68%. With the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting approaching, authorities expect the number of overseas visitors excluding Hong Kong to grow by 28% for the rest of the year, bringing the full-year total to 4.8 million
