A LANDMARK exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of Cantopop and cinema icon Leslie Cheung has opened in Hong Kong, featuring more than 300 rare artefacts — many on public display for the first time.

Titled “Miss You Much: Leslie 70th Birthday Exhibition,” the show runs through May 10, 2027, at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin. Organized by the museum and presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong, the exhibition is free to enter.

Cheung, who died in 2003 at the age of 46, remains one of Hong Kong’s most beloved entertainers. Affectionately known as “Gor-gor” (Cantonese for “big brother”), he released a vast catalogue of music, starred in more than 50 films, and toured globally across Asia, North America, Europe and Australia, helping bring Hong Kong pop culture to international audiences. His screen credits include award-winning performances that earned him Hong Kong Film Awards and international recognition, while his posthumous online presence has spawned a generation of “Post-Leslie” fans.

Highlights of the exhibition include stage costumes from his landmark “Across 97” concert — a gold jacket, sequined tops, purple-striped trousers, and a green striped suit — alongside an artistically designed chair used in the same show. Also on display are music video stills, a portrait by local artist Yuen Tai-yung, and birthday cards written by fans on the first anniversary of his death.

For the first time, the museum has recreated interior scenes from Cheung’s former residence, including his personal desk, offering visitors a glimpse into his life away from the spotlight.

The exhibition also features vinyl records, film posters and stills, awards, and popular culture memorabilia, supplemented by multimedia programs and photo opportunities.

‘FUN SPACE’

In a related tribute, Cheung’s former manager, Florence Chan, has unveiled a separate commemorative space in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. Titled “FUN SPACE,” this multi-arena experiential venue is designed to offer the public another intimate setting to remember the legendary star’s life and career.

The space features creative direction by renowned art director William Chang, a long-time collaborator of Cheung’s. It includes dedicated zones showcasing stage costumes from his landmark concerts, alongside a gallery of his most significant music and film awards, allowing fans and visitors to explore the breadth of his artistic achievements up close.
