G.E.M. breaks world record in SZ for most stadium shows on a solo tour
    2026-10-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CELEBRATED Hong Kong pop singer G.E.M. completed her “I Am Gloria” world tour with a final show in Shenzhen on Monday, for which she was awarded a new Guinness World Record.

“Tonight, besides being our final show, there is also a little surprise I’d like to share. Actually, I feel I need to thank every one of you very, very, very much, for making this tour possible, after 182 shows in nearly three years,” G.E.M. said at the concert at the Shenzhen Universiade Center Stadium in Longgang District. “We rewrite history together.”

Then, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator announced and certified on site that G.E.M. had earned the Guinness World Record title for “most stadium shows on a music tour by a solo artist.”

The “I Am Gloria” tour kicked off Dec. 7, 2023, in Guangzhou and ended Oct. 5, 2026, in Shenzhen. It comprised a total of 182 shows, of which 170 were stadium shows and the remaining 12 were performed in arenas.

The singer took the stage at the venue for two back-to-back nights to wrap up her tour.

The previous evening, Shenzhen experienced sudden heavy rainfall, even forcing the authorities to cancel the scheduled light show on short notice.

G.E.M. sang in the rain, with tens of thousands of audience members cheering her on, unfazed.

She told the audience: “Water keeps getting in my eyes, and my contact lenses were flipped.”

For a while, her golden microphone was damaged by the rain and she couldn’t hear her own voice in the earphones. After switching to a new microphone, the show continued.

Originating in London, England, Guinness World Records is a global record-certifier with a 71-year history.

G.E.M., born Gloria Tang Sze-wing into a musical family in 1991 in Shanghai, moved to Hong Kong at 4.

A Mandopop singer, songwriter, music producer and author, she is known for her powerful vocals and international influence. Her representative works include “Light Years Away,” “Bubble,” “Where Did U Go,” “My Secret” and “Sleeping Beauty,” among others.
