“Little Pinecone,” a leopard cat under China’s second-class national protection, is released into a wildlife habitat in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, on Tuesday, months after being rescued. The cub was found alone in the wild April 25, weak and in poor health, and taken to the Qingyuan Chimelong Wildlife Rescue Center. Its condition stabilized, and it steadily put on weight and grew. After completing training, it passed an assessment of its health, hunting skills, alertness and wild adaptability. China is home to an estimated 230,000 leopard cats. China News Service |
