New library opens as a smart, all-age cultural landmark
    2026-10-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Longhua Library (Luhu Site) has opened its doors, offering reading as a lifelong pursuit for residents of all ages.

The new library has a total floor area of about 32,400 square meters, with more than 1,800 reading seats and a designed collection of 1.1 million books. Its four floors are designed to be friendly to all ages and groups, with human-centered details throughout.

The first floor focuses on families and young people, with separate reading areas for children and teenagers. A dedicated reading room for visually impaired readers also opens cultural doors to special groups.

The silver-haired reading area is designed for elderly readers, with large-print books, comfortable seating, and magnifiers.

The second floor houses literature and social science reading spaces, along with a city memory hall, seminar rooms, an audiovisual room, and a donation and book-exchange center, covering quiet reading, academic discussion, audiovisual appreciation, and book recycling in one place.

Digital intelligence is woven into everyday operations at the new library. With a tap of the finger, books “take the elevator” and travel along conveyor belts to readers. The intelligent three-dimensional book repository uses a dual system of automated retrieval and delivery to quickly locate, identify, and transfer books, completing shelving, sorting, and online reservations in one seamless process.

Touch-screen reading terminals, electronic picture books, and digital waterfall displays serve readers of all ages, helping young people build digital reading skills and humanistic perspectives through immersive experiences.

A children’s digital reading area features electronic picture book machines, AR interactive equipment, and picture book creation devices, allowing children to draw and print their own picture books on site.

Venue: Luhu Art Center, Longhua District (鹭湖艺术中心)

Metro: Line 4 to Guanlan Station (观澜站), Exit E; then transfer to Longhua Tram Line 1 to Dabutou Station (大布头站)(Tang Li)
