Violin legend to grace SZ stage
    2026-10-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

LEGENDARY German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is set to join forces with conductor Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a symphonic gala performance, bringing together three titans of the classical music world.

Mutter, a global phenomenon and one of the most celebrated violinists of the time, was discovered by Herbert von Karajan at age 13 and made her professional debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1977. A four-time Grammy Award winner, she has inspired more than 30 new works composed specifically for her by leading contemporary composers, including John Williams, Krzysztof Penderecki, and André Previn.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, received its “Royal” title from Queen Elizabeth II in 1966. With a repertoire spanning classical symphonies, film scores, and crossover works, the orchestra delivers more than 200 performances annually, upholding a quintessentially British orchestral sound while embracing diverse musical expressions.

The concert program features a selection of British and Austro-German masterworks, including George Butterworth’s “A Shropshire Lad Rhapsody,” Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64,” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67.”

Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto” has long been a signature work in Mutter’s discography, while Beethoven’s iconic “Fifth Symphony” promises a powerful finale to an unforgettable evening.
