Hanbok Hanbok is the traditional attire of the Korean people, characterized by a basic two-piece structure: an upper garment called jeogori (jacket) and a lower garment that is either chima (skirt) for women or baji (trousers) for men. This fundamental configuration — a top and bottom worn separately — has remained remarkably consistent throughout history, distinguishing hanbok from other traditional costumes in East Asia. The ensemble is typically secured with an otgoreum, a ribbon tied at the front of the jacket. Historical evidence from Goguryeo tomb murals and clay figures from the Silla period indicates that the basic structure of this attire was established during the Three Kingdoms period, and it has continued to evolve while maintaining its core identity. |
