Shenzhen first in China to legislate lights out for birds
    2026-11-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Shenzhen has become the first city in China to write “lights out for birds” into law, with a regulation protecting its mangrove wetlands taking effect Thursday. Article 15 of the regulation calls for better planning and control of nighttime lighting in and around mangrove wetlands used by migratory birds. The measure is part of a broader effort to make the city more bird-friendly. Shenzhen Bay Park, which lies along a major global migratory route, was the first to adopt the practice. Each year, the park dims its lights to give birds a safer place to rest among the mangroves
