SHANGRI-LA Hotels and Resorts has announced that its luxury properties around the world will no longer serve shark fin in an effort to promote sustainable development. Shangri-La’s sustainable seafood policy includes a commitment to stop serving shark fin in all of its operated restaurants, while also ending shark fin orders for banquets, effective immediately. Shangri-La will honor contracts for upcoming banquets booked prior to the announcement. Shangri-La also will phase out bluefin tuna and Chilean sea bass in all its operated restaurants within the year. In December 2010, the company initiated its sustainable seafood policy with the removal of shark fin products from its restaurant menus. Based in Hong Kong, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts owns or operates 72 hotels worldwide under the Shangri-La, Kerry and Traders brands. (Wang Yuanyuan) |
