2 Chinese die in crash

TWO Chinese citizens were killed and many injured in a bus crash in Russia’s far eastern Primorye territory, the Center for Consular Assistance and Protection of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said yesterday on its social media account.

A tourist bus, from Dongning City of China’s Heilongjiang Province to Russia’s port city of Vladivostok, overturned near the city of Ussuriysk at 4:30 p.m. local time yesterday, it said.

4 arrested over blast

FRENCH police have arrested four suspects following a blast in the city of Lyon that wounded 13 people last week, authorities said Monday.

TV footage showed a police operation under way Monday in a small town outside Lyon involving officers wearing ski masks. Police had launched a large manhunt after a device exploded Friday on a busy pedestrian street in France’s third-largest city.

The prosecutors’ office later said three other suspects, including a woman, were detained and formally arrested. According to French media, they included the mother and the brother of the main suspect.

Prison fight toll rises

THE death toll from recent prison fights in northern Brazil reached 57 Monday, as prison wardens found the bodies of 42 inmates in four prisons.

A fight between inmates during visiting hours led to the deaths of inmates Sunday at the Anisio Jobim Prison Complex, in the city of Manaus in the state of Amazonas. The inmates were strangled to death or stabbed with toothbrushes.
