SHANGRI-LA Hotel, Shenzhen presented a unique Children’s Day last Sunday with sand painting shows, as well as a poolside BBQ buffet dinner at its rooftop garden on the fifth floor. Performed by Lusa, a renowned sand painting performance artist, and her partner Yan Ming, the sand painting not only demonstrated how the artists could make the best of the sand in their hands, but also promoted a more environmentally friendly lifestyle as the vivid paintings performed on site ranged from COVID-19 to other recent happenings that highlight the urgent need for humanity to take better care of Mother Earth and for each of us to care more for our own health. An illustration of a bush fire in Australia and of the highest ever temperature reported at the Antarctic Pole are just two examples of what they portrayed in sand. Apart from a large sand painting created and displayed on the floor of the hotel’s lobby, the other major sand painting was completed on the surface of the emptied rooftop garden kid’s pool on the fifth floor. A number of kids were invited to draw together with the artists and enjoyed the art journey while experiencing how to draw in sand instead of using the usual pens and brushes on paper. The celebration for International Children’s Day also marked a start for the regular Poolside BBQ Buffet at the Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen. Available every Friday, diners can immerse themselves in the aromas from the various grills and the cool night breeze next to the hotel’s swimming pool in the tropical rooftop garden setting, while enjoying a great spread of barbecued dishes. The hotel has implemented a series of stringent safety and hygiene measures for its buffet amid the COVID-19 pandemic, including increased frequency of disinfection in restaurants, setting dish washing temperatures at 82 degrees Celsius to ensure utensils are well sanitized, utilization of new technologies to reduce personal contact, etc.(Maggie Tang) |
