Nanshan has litchis, Marriott has high tea

LITCHI is the fruit that best embodies relief for humid, scorching summers in South China. It doesn’t take much effort to peel off its rosy shell and grab a bite of its juicy pulp. However, juicy and sweet as it is, you may end up with a sore throat and with acne freshly popping up around your chin if you eat too many litchis.

If you are a super litchi lover but are afraid of getting too much “yeet hay” from this seemingly mild fruit, why not try out the new season of Enchanting Afternoon Tea by The Lounge at Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Nanshan. The considerate pastry chefs with the hotel imaginatively combine the authentic taste, texture and aroma of freshly picked litchis with delicate tea cakes and special fruit mocktails.

The high tea set presents sweetish and savory tea cakes on a three-tiered cake stand with scones in plain, rose and strawberry flavors served with Mascarpone cheese, litchi red berries jelly and strawberry jam.

The tea cakes are arranged in a transitional order according to their colors and taste. After posing in your best posture with your friends while holding the instagrammable litchi-shaped rose mousse or the heart-shaped baby pink chocolate cake, you can then move on to the lower tiers of the cake stand to neutralize your taste buds with chicken salad, shrimp pancakes, crab bagel and a mango sandwich — all of course seasoned with litchis.

The price is 520 yuan (US$74) per set, inclusive of a 6 percent VAT and a 10 percent service charge.
