AT least 12 Malian soldiers were killed in attacks launched by armed “terrorist groups” against the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) on Monday night and Tuesday morning, the Malian army confirmed Tuesday on its official site. “The FAMa post of Sokoura was the subject of a terrorist attack on the night of Oct. 12 to 13. The provisional toll indicates nine deaths,” the Malian Armed Forces said. According to the FAMa, the reinforcements dispatched to the site were the victim of a complex attack in the same locality Tuesday morning. “The provisional toll of this second attack is three deaths, 10 injured and some reported missing on the army side,” the FAMa said, adding that nine terrorists were killed. The FAMa stressed that the tolls of the two attacks are provisional and further assessments are ongoing. The Malian Armed Forces have been the target of several attacks since the military mutiny that overthrew President Keita on Aug. 18. On the eve of the 60th anniversary of Mali’s independence, the president of the National Committee for the Salvation of the People and transitional vice president Assimi Goita promised that the Malian army would win the war against the terrorist groups.(Xinhua) |
