112 new local cases

THE mainland Saturday reported 112 locally transmitted COVID cases, the National Health Commission said yesterday.

According to the commission’s daily report, Guangdong reported 48 of the new local infections, and Inner Mongolia reported 38. For other provincial-level regions, Guangxi reported seven cases, Liaoning reported six, Tianjin and Sichuan each reported three, while Beijing, Jiangsu and Yunnan each reported two, and Shanxi reported one.

Poverty alleviation

THE Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has made progress in consolidating poverty alleviation achievements and advancing rural revitalization, local authorities said.

Last year, the per capita disposable income of rural residents living in areas lifted out of poverty in Xinjiang hit 14,798 yuan (US$2,343), an increase of 12.08 percent over the previous year.

22 satellites launched

CHINA launched a Long March-8 rocket to place 22 satellites in space yesterday, setting a domestic record for the most satellites launched by a single rocket.

These satellites will then be released in 12 groups. They will be mainly used for commercial remote sensing services, marine environment monitoring, forest fire prevention and disaster mitigation.
