
New power unit starts operation at major hydropower station A bird’s-eye view of Baihetan hydropower station on the Jinsha River in Southwest China. A new power-generating unit in the station started formal operation yesterday, marking that the eighth power-generating unit has gone operational, out of a total of 16 units constructed in the mega project. Once fully operational, the station will generate an average of more than 62.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, sufficient for the annual electricity consumption of approximately 75 million people.
