Alert for rainstorms

CHINA’S meteorological authority yesterday renewed a blue alert for rainstorms in some parts of the country.

Heavy rainfall or rainstorms are forecast to lash parts of Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi and Guizhou, according to the National Meteorological Center. It has advised local governments to make due preparations. Schools and kindergartens should work to ensure the safety of children, and drivers should stay cautious about waterlogging and traffic jams.

Tea cultural salon

HUNDREDS of New Yorkers in the United States on Saturday participated in a tea-themed cultural salon in celebration of the International Tea Day, which falls yesterday.

People could not only have a taste of specialty teas from Southeast China’s Quanzhou but also admire tea ceremony demonstrations staged by organizers. The event at China Institute also featured performances of the Quanzhou marionette and Quanzhou Nanyin, which was listed as a World Human Verbal and Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

Ancient shipwrecks

AN archaeological investigation on two ancient shipwrecks discovered in the South China Sea was launched Saturday, opening a new chapter of China’s deep-sea archaeology, according to a press conference in Sanya, Hainan Province.

In October 2022, two ancient shipwrecks were discovered at an underwater depth of about 1,500 meters near the northwest continental slope of the South China Sea.
