Victims identified

FOUR climbers who were killed or went missing after avalanches hit Mount Shishapangma in Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region on Saturday afternoon have been identified, according to the regional sports bureau.

Two avalanches occurred at 7,600 meters and 8,000 meters in altitude, leaving American climber Anna Gutu and Nepalese mountain guide Mingmar Sherpa dead, and American climber Gina Marie Rzucidlo and Nepalese mountain guide Tenjen Sherpa missing. Another Nepalese mountain guide Karma Geljen Sherpa was seriously injured.

Ex-sports official sacked

DU ZHAOCAI, former vice head of the General Administration of Sport of China, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and law.

The punishment was announced in an official statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision on Saturday.

An investigation of Du’s case found that Du, also a former member of the administration’s leading Party members group, had lost his ideals and beliefs, resisted investigations into his problems, and engaged in superstitious activities.
