Cold weather

COLD air will sweep China from west to east over the next four days, resulting in temperature drops and strong winds in different parts of China, the country’s meteorological authority said yesterday.

From today to Friday, temperatures are expected to fall by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius in vast regions of the country, with temperature drops in parts of Inner Mongolia and Northeast China to exceed 16 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorological Center said.

Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang could see sleet, light snow, or heavy snow in the following days. The accumulative snowfall in parts of these regions is forecast to reach 20 to 25 mm.

Space technology

THE 2023 International Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology — Health kicked off in Beijing on Saturday.

More than 100 scientists and scholars from home and abroad have been invited to the three-day symposium to discuss the development potential and prospects of the peaceful use of space technology, and to promote global exchanges and cooperation.

Paleolithic sites

MORE than 200 Paleolithic sites have been found in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province since 2019, challenging the claim that the area had scarce hominins in the Old Stone Age.

The discovery, a result of a comprehensive archaeological investigation launched in 2019, was briefed Saturday at a seminar in Sichuan’s Meishan City.
