Satellite internet CHINA has completed the initial set-up of its first high-orbit satellite internet, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). Following the launch of a group of high-throughput communication satellites, the high-orbit satellite internet fully covers the whole territory of China and key areas of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) participating countries. The high-throughput satellites have wide bandwidth and fast transmission speeds, facilitating video downloads and video calls. Sichuan-Qinghai railway A 238-KILOMETER section of the Sichuan-Qinghai railway in western China became operational yesterday after 12 years of construction. The first high-speed passenger train was launched at around 11 a.m. from Maoxian County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, heading for Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan. The railway crosses the rugged, earthquake-prone plateau region in northwest Sichuan, and takes a detour to avoid disturbing the Giant Panda National Park. AIDS cases THE overall HIV/AIDS epidemic in Beijing is at a low prevalence level, with a steady decline in the number of new cases, said the city’s center for disease control and prevention Sunday. Since China reported the first case of AIDS in 1985, the capital city has reported a total of 40,840 cases of HIV/AIDS as of Oct. 31 this year. Among all the infected, 93.45% were transmitted through sexual contact, with 68.41% through contact between men and 25.04% through contact between individuals of different genders. |
