WITH the Paris Olympics just around the corner, Team China’s podium uniform was unveiled in Beijing on Tuesday. The design, also known as the “Champion Dragon Clothes,” seamlessly blends classic Chinese silhouettes with a minimalist color palette. Elements like “dragon scales” and “dragon whiskers” are intricately combined with embossed textures, patchwork, and embroidery techniques, showcasing traditional Chinese cultural heritage while embodying the spirit of perseverance and vitality of Chinese athletes. Athletes from China will don this podium uniform when claiming their medals at the Paris Olympics, presenting a strong image of Chinese sportsmanship. The podium uniforms for the Chinese delegation are crafted from eco-friendly recycled fibers. By utilizing materials like recycled nylon and polyester, the production process aims to reduce carbon emissions significantly. Surpassing a 50% carbon reduction target, these podium uniforms mark China’s first set of officially certified carbon-neutral Olympic attire by authoritative institutions. The incorporation of the dragon motif into the design of Team China’s podium uniforms originated during the Chinese Year of the Dragon in 2012. (Tang Li) |
