Chinese film award winners announced
    2024-11-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WINNERS of the 37th Golden Rooster Awards, including the best actor, actress, director, and feature film, were announced Saturday evening during a ceremony in Xiamen, in East China’s Fujian Province.

The award for best feature film was presented to “Article 20,” directed by veteran filmmaker Zhang Yimou, which revolves around a narrative where prosecutors and ordinary people work together to uphold social fairness and justice. Lei Jiayin was honored with the best actor award for his role in the film.

Li Gengxi received the best actress award for her performance in “Viva La Vida,” a poignant tale portraying the relationship between a young woman in need of a kidney transplant and a young man afflicted with a brain disease.

Chen Kaige was recognized with the best director award for “The Volunteers: To the War,” the first movie in a war trilogy. The best documentary award was granted to “The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru,” a documentary depicting the heroic rescue of British prisoners of war by Chinese fishermen during World War II.

Established in 1981, the Golden Rooster Awards is a national event backed by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Film Association.

“YOLO,” a remake of the Japanese film “Hundred Yen Love,” directed by Jia Ling and starring Jia in the lead role, emerged as this year’s biggest box office success. Despite its commercial success, the film did not receive any nominations at the awards, highlighting a disparity in perspectives between Chinese film audiences and critics. (Xinhua)
