Gender-neutral toilets

GUANGZHOU, capital of Guangdong Province, has unveiled a draft plan on public toilets that aims to address issues such as long queues at women’s restrooms and encourages the repurposing of more toilets into gender-neutral facilities.

The draft specifically targets the repurposing of male toilets with low utilization, facilities with an imbalanced ratio of male-to-female stalls or those in need of renovation into gender-neutral restrooms.

It also calls for better facilities and amenities tailored for families with young children.

Fewer Chinese on

US campus

WHILE India and China still make up over half of all international students in the U.S., India has overtaken China as the top source for international students in that country for the first time in about 15 years, according to data released Monday.

A total of 331,602 Indians studied in the U.S. during the 2023-24 school year, compared with 277,398 Chinese, according to the latest annual survey by the Institute of International Education (IIE), sponsored by the U.S. State Department. Indian students saw a 23% increase from the previous academic year, while Chinese students saw a 4% decrease.

Real-name tickets

for Disney resort

THE Shanghai Disney Resort announced yesterday that it will implement a new real-name ticketing policy starting Dec. 23. Under the new rules, all visitors planning to enter the Shanghai Disneyland theme park are required to purchase tickets using their own valid official ID. Each ID can only be used to purchase one ticket per visit date. Upon entering the park, visitors are required to present the physical copy of their valid ID used for the ticket purchase.

Digital initiative

CHINA will launch a pilot program for its initiative to integrate fifth-generation network and industrial internet into manufacturing in 10 cities to promote digital transformation.

The “5G + industrial internet” program will be trialed in Qingdao, Nanjing, Ningbo, Shanghai, and Suzhou in the eastern regions, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Guangdong, Shenyang in Northeast China, Wuhan in Hubei, and Chengdu in Sichuan, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced at a conference in Wuhan on Tuesday.
