SHENZHEN-BASED tech giant Huawei inaugurated the world’s first commercial trial of an autonomous parking system at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport on Monday. Operated through the Qiankun ADS 3.0 Vehicle Parking Driver (VPD) system, this service is exclusive to car owners whose vehicles are equipped with Huawei’s system. Upon reaching the airport’s autonomous parking area, the driver can exit the vehicle and use a mobile app to designate a parking spot. Subsequently, the car can commence unmanned valet parking while the patrons proceed to the airport. The car autonomously navigates to the designated parking spot. It will intelligently yield to pedestrians and vehicles en route. In the event of an occupied space, the vehicle will autonomously select an available spot and power down after parking. The owner retains the ability to override the vehicle’s parking choice if the car parks at an inconvenient spot. Upon the owner’s return to the airport, the vehicle can be summoned to the pick-up area with a click of button on the app. (SD-Xinhua) |
