THE city’s public transport IC cards will go out of service and be replaced by the Qingdaotong Card from Dec. 31 this year.
Recharging services for IC cards stopped Sept. 30. IC cards can still be used on city buses until Dec. 31.
About 900,000 Qingdaotong Cards have been issued since their introduction March 31. They can now be used on more than 4,000 buses, 1,000 taxis, more than 200 supermarket chains and convenience stores, more than 1,200 terminals at the city’s restaurants, entertainment venues, gas stations, gyms and department stores.
The Qingdaotong Cards will next extend to ferries, the city Metro and toll gates at bridges and tunnels. The cards can be recharged at more than 150 locations across the city.
