INGDAO’S 10 major retailers saw 1.05 billion yuan in sales during the seven-day National Day holiday, a 21.3 percent increase from last year. Revenue of the city’s 10 major catering chains increased by 19 percent to 24.47 million yuan.
The sharp increase in sales was mainly due to promotional activities by shops, at which holiday, seasonal and durable products were the most popular items among consumers. According to figures provided by the city’s commerce bureau, sales of cosmetic products reached 30.5 million yuan, a 33 percent increase over last year, while sales of jewelry increased more than 28 percent.
Catering sales increased 19.1 percent over last year. Many catering companies held promotional activities to attract diners, and twice the usual number of diners were seen on Dengzhou Road Beer Street and Yunxiao Road Cuisine Street. Sales in these areas increased by 60 percent over typical periods.
In addition, 10 national-level hotels served 2,548 wedding tables. Income from wedding parties increased by 50 percent compared with normal turnover. Small and medium-sized restaurants, fast food chains and hot-pot restaurants saw a 35 percent increase in customers over the usual, according to the bureau. (Wang Yuanyuan, He Jun)
