深圳中学新开设三门AP课程

Wang Yuanyuan

Three Advanced Placement (AP) courses have opened at Shenzhen Middle School in Luohu District with the aim of helping students to apply* for universities in America.

The three courses include physics, English and writing, and economics. Students at the school can now study American college courses without leaving the country, according to a teacher at SMS who declined to be identified.

Another course, calculus*, is waiting for approval from the American College Board and is expected to open later this year.

AP courses organized and tested by the college board offer college courses in 37 majors in language skills, science, art and economics. High school students can earn course credits* by passing the tests.

A high AP score can help students apply for more than 3,600 universities and colleges in more than 40 countries, including top universities such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge.

Currently, 43 schools in China run the courses, including Cuiyuan Middle School in Luohu District and other private and international schools around the city.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen Middle School is looking at the possibility of opening a new campus in Nigang Community, Luohu District, after the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology moves to Longgang District in 2011, the school said on Monday.
