THE largest digital cartoon and animation studio in the world, Taiwan Wang Film Productions Co., also known as Hong Guang, has settled in Qingdao’s Chengyang District.
Major Hollywood animated blockbusters are expected to be produced there and an Asian cartoon and animation center will be formed.
One of the oldest and most prolific Taiwanese animation studios, Wang Film Productions has created animations for various TV shows and films for studios in North America, Europe and Asia, including Nickelodeon, Warner and Disney.
Construction of its 3.5-billion-yuan (US$522-million) Qingdao base will begin next year, to be completed in 2014.
The base will include its global headquarters, a cartoon and animation outsourcing base, an innovation training center, and a spinoff research and development center, the Qingdao government said.
Upon its completion, it is hoped the base will attract more than 200 well-known animation studios from the United States, Europe and Asia. (Jane Lai)
