CHINA’S first steam-engine train August 1, which was made in Qingdao, has arrived back in the city after being shown at a number of exhibitions in the past years.
It was produced by the Qingdao CSR company on Aug. 1, 1952, hence the name. The 22.6-meter-long vehicle weighs 92 tons and runs at 80 kilometers per hour. Its design was the basis for most of the steam engines used in China during the 1950s and 1960s.
August 1 continued puffing away from August 1952 to May 30, 1992. Since then, it has been doing the rounds at exhibitions.
