THE third three-year study of Shandong’s cultural relics has found 1,077 historical relics.
The study raises the province’s number of historic cultural streets and zones from 10 to 17. The Eight Passes has been listed one of China’s first-class Chinese historic and cultural streets.
Qingdao has built several new museums paying tribute to its cultural and industrial relics and these are becoming popular attractions.
Based on the characteristics of Qingdao’s cultural relics on the land, under the earth and under water, the three-year investigation has helped set up a Shandong University archaeology base, the National Museum Qingdao Underwater Archaeology Center and the Qingdao Base of National Underwater Cultural Relic Protection.
Qingdao has also published a series of books about its cultural relics, along with organizing exhibitions and surveys. (Jane Lai)
