QINGDAO’S ship building and ocean engineering industries reported output of 13 billion yuan from January to September this year, a 39 percent year-on-year increase.
The industry’s export delivery value stood at 4 billion yuan from January to September, up 25.7 percent from a year ago.
Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. completed five 180,000-ton bulk freighters in its 500,000-ton and 300,000-ton shipyards in the first nine months of this year.
The company delivered the first 180,000-ton bulk freighter in Shandong Province last year, and has landed orders for four 180,000-ton bulk freighters and four 82,000-ton bulk freighters.
Qingdao Qiyao Wartsila MHI Linshan Marine Diesel Co. completed its first low-speed marine diesel engine for the world market in April 2009, less than two years after opening.
Other ocean engineering projects in the city are under way.
Qingdao will actively seek to be the home to projects undertaken by the China Shipbuilding Industry Co., according to the city’s economic and information bureau.(Li Hao, Lin Gang)
